HOME TOWN PICTURES

I’ve posted pictures here from Las Vegas and Germany and other places but never anything from the town I live in. Brampton, Ontario, is a city of over 300,000 and part of the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Not the nicest town I’ve ever lived in but it is home.

Yesterday, I took a stroll around Chingcousy Park which is just a few minutes away is a large area with a ski hill, curling club, tennis courts, mini zoo, sports fields and indoor tropical garden.
Here’s a couple of the shots I like the most.

This was taken in the tropical garden and I’m very happy with how this turned out.

This is the tube ride at our “ski hill”. The mountain was made by taking all the fill from this area as they were digging the basements. Over 20 years ago this was a pretty forward thinking idea.

The entire album is availabe here.

GOODBYE FAITHFUL STEED

This is the first and last picture of my current vehicle that you’ll see on this site.

A 1996 Chrysler Cirrus that has been my main mode of transportation for 7 years is about to be replaced. Besides being dirty, this car has a problem with the ABS, an oil leak, a transmission leak and the rack (as in rack and pinion) needs replacing.

Monday evening, we pick up the replacement. A 2004 Jeep Liberty will take over the job of getting me back and forth.

GERMANY DAY 6

Last full day in country. Flying back to Toronto tomorrow morning. Yee Haw!! If you’re intersted, all the best of the pictures of my trip are available at this link.

GERMANY DAY 4 - LATER THE SAME DAY

Another day done. Yawn!!!!!!

Once again, full day at the office followed by a business dinner. No time to see the sights but I do have a few tidbits to share. I have a hotel room that is one of the nicest at the same time one of the strangest I’ve ever stayed in.

First the nice.

Nothing wrong with a 42″ TV on the wall.

Nice bathroom, very modern, very comfortable.

Now the strange.

Interesting use of glass and light. Looks like an up scale hooker’s bedroom.

DAY 3 THE END

Long, long, long day. Just got back to the hotel at 10:30. I’ve got to get some sleep tonight. Quick update then I’m gone.

A picture of the tower of St. Nikolai in downtown Hamburg. Left as a momunment of the suffering the city endured during WWII.

From a tourist handout:
The Allied bombing campaigns of World War Two changed the face of Hamburg. Approximately 50% of the city´s living area, 40% of its industrial and 80% of its harbour areas were laid to ruin. 55,000 people lost their lives in the air raids, while another 70,000 men lost their lives in battle. In the nearby Neuengamme concentration camp nearly 70,000 people were killed. The tower of St. Nikolai, blackened with soot, was almost all that remained of this important church.

GERMANY DAY 3

Up at 5 a.m. this morning. I’ll feel like a bag of dirt later I know. A full day of meetings today with a dinner tonight. No more time for sightseeing, it’s back to business. You’ll have to make due with a picture I took at St. Nikolai. The sculpture has been cleaned but you can still see the damage caused by the Allied bombing.

A MORNING WALK IN HAMBURG

This morning we took a walk around the city. The here is lousy. Very dreary day that looks like it might rain at any moment. We paid our 2.5 euros to ride to the top of St. Michael’s cathedral where I took these pictures. The lighting was very poor so they certainly haven’t turned out the way I’d hoped.

GERMANY DAY 2

Ten hours of sleep and I’m ready to go. Had a nice simple dinner last night and hit the sack before 8 pm. Caught this on the way out to the resturant.
