Long, long, long day. Just got back to the hotel at 10:30. I’ve got to get some sleep tonight. Quick update then I’m gone.

A picture of the tower of St. Nikolai in downtown Hamburg. Left as a momunment of the suffering the city endured during WWII.

From a tourist handout:
The Allied bombing campaigns of World War Two changed the face of Hamburg. Approximately 50% of the city´s living area, 40% of its industrial and 80% of its harbour areas were laid to ruin. 55,000 people lost their lives in the air raids, while another 70,000 men lost their lives in battle. In the nearby Neuengamme concentration camp nearly 70,000 people were killed. The tower of St. Nikolai, blackened with soot, was almost all that remained of this important church.
