Two weeks from today I’ll be in (hopefully) sunny Orlando Florida. One of my team leaders and I are heading down to take part in a users’ conference. We’re scheduled to give a couple of presentations on features of the Warehouse Mangement System we use so there’s preparation underway. The rest of the 2 1/2 day conference will involve other presentations and meet and greets with representatives from warehousing companies all across North America.
I’ve been to about 10 of these over the years so it’s nice to see familiar faces every 12 months or so. This will be our second visit to Orlando, in the past we’ve been to Phoneix (3 times), San Antonio, Charleston, New Orleans and Las Vegas. Not a bad way to spend some time away from the cold and snow of Toronto.
Usually I take every opportunity I can at these things to get a couple of rounds of golf in. I’m scheduled for 1 this year but I have plans for the free day on Thursday. Today I booked admission and a tour at the Kennedy Space Center.
I’ve always been nuts about spaceflight and I kicked myself last time in Florida for not taking the 1 hour drive over to the KSC. From the promotional material, it looks like we’ll get a chance to see the Vehicle Assembly Building, one of the largest buildings in the world where they mate the shuttle to the solid boosters and external tank. With the next shuttle launch, STS 114, scheduled sometime in the next few months, there’s an outside chance that we might actually see it being readied. Geek heaven!!
Needless to say, I’m bringing both digital cameras and enough flash card memory to get a few hundred photos. Oh yeah, I’ll learn lots at the confernce too. 🙂
