With nearly 3 days to go before landfall, hurricane Rita is already a Catergory 5 storm with a barometric pressure at the eye that ranks it as the 3rd strongest in recorded history.
Sustained winds are clocked at over 165mph with gusts to 185. Rita will continue to build up steam as it passes over the warm Gulf of Mexico. Forecasters stress that it is too soon to accurately predict where she will come ashore but the Governor of Texas has ordered a mandatory evacuation for almost the entire coastline.
