HANUKKAH YES – CHRISTMAS NO

Uncategorized

The Glendale River Hills School District in Glendale Wis. has decided that Hanukkah songs are “cultural” and allowed while some Christmas carols contain “dogmatic religious statements” and are forbidden. From their written policy:

“Music programs given at times close to religious holidays should not use the religious aspect of these holidays as the underlying motive or theme. No songs should be sung which contain dogmatic religious statements.”

Congratulations Glendale River Hills School District! Not only have you set a new standard for Political Correctness, you’ve also won my coveted “Asshats Of The Day Award”.

  1. But religious Chanukah songs are out as well. The dreidle song contains no religious content; the song basically goes “Oh dreu\idle dreidle dreidle I made you out of clay, and when your dry and ready oh dreidle I shall play.” Unless you knew the dreidle was used as a toy to prevent the Greeks from knowing we were learning Torah and not gambling it doesn’t really have much meaning. No more than Frosty the Snow Man (listed on all sites that I went to as a Christmas song) or having a secret santa, or red and green coloring everywhere or the Chronicles of Narnia.
