Permission To Buzz The Tower Denied

A New Zealand man who threatened to crash a small airplane into the Sky Tower in downtown Auckland last year was sentenced to prison partially due to “the 9/11 factor”.

David Gregory Turnock’s lawyer had argued that his client was mentally ill and depressed because he thought his wife had taken up with another man but the judge ruled “”It seems clear enough, I think, that you threatened violence and the plane was a weapon,” as his reason for imposing a jail term instead of psychiatric detention.
