Asshat(s) Of The Day

Take a look at that image.  A Christmas wreath in the shape of a peace sign.  Sort of pretty, as Christmas decorations go, and it’s hard to believe that it is at the centre of a controversy that pits a Homeowners’ Association in Pagaso Springs Colorado against Lisa Jensen because the symbol is seen as an anti Iraq war protest and a sign of Satan.

Jensen is amazed saying: “I honestly wasn’t thinking of the Iraq war. Peace is way bigger than not being at war. This is a spiritual thing. I am not going to take it down until after Christmas. Now that it has come to this I feel I can’t get bullied. What if they don’t like my Santa Claus.”

The association is prepared to fine Jensen $25 a day saying: “Loma Linda residents are offended by the peace sign displayed on the front of your house. … This Board will not allow any signs, flags etc. that can be considered divisive….”

Stay strong Ms. Jensen.

A380 Idea "Stolen"?

Interesting Wikipedia entry regarding the McDonnell Douglas MD12 project that bears more than a passing resemblance to the Airbus A380

Never built because no one ordered it and the idea died when MD and Boeing merged in 1997.

The MD12 was slightly shorter than the A380 (208 ft vs. 239) and was designed to carry 120 fewer passengers in the maximum loading configuration.

Ready, Just In Case

Chicago’s Midway Airport has completed construction of a crushable concrete safety zone to guard against another instance of an airplane skidding of a snowy runway.  This comes as a result of last year’s accident involving a Southwest Airlines 737-700 where a child was killed in a car that was hit when the jet ended up on Central Avenue.

The NTSB investigation determined that the plane would not have ended up in the street if the barrier had been in place.

Quote Of The Day

Richard Feynman

“We are at the very beginning of time for the human race. It is not unreasonable that we grapple with problems. But there are tens of thousands of years in the future. Our responsibility is to do what we can, learn what we can, improve the solutions, and pass them on.”
