Much has been made of the production delays that are hindering the Airbus [[A380]] launch. The most common reason stated is “wiring problems”. It turns out that the problem was caused by deisgners in different European countries using different versions of the 3D design progam [[CATIA]] which has led to wiring from one section not lining up with the others.
Airbus manufacturing is unlike anything else in the world. Different parts of the aircraft are made all over Europe and than married together at the main assembly plant in France. Needless to say, everything has to mate perfectly and herein lies the problem.
Each A380 has 530 kilometers of wiring!
