We must be crazy

imageNormally you couldn’t stop me from playing golf without a large caliber weapon but I’m really not sure about today.  Our annual customer golf tournament is being played today at Glencarin outside Toronto.  Always a fun day but this could be a little different.

The forecast temperature is 35C with humidity to make it feel like 40+.  On the menu today - water, water and more water.

Teeing off at 1pm on what could be the hottest day of the year probably qualifies as insanity.

UPDATE: It was as hot as they forecast and just finishing the round was a struggle.  Played terrible golf but we had a fun time, heat notwithstanding.

Canadian Aviation Expo 2007 - Oshawa Airport

Sort of a throwaway shot I took yesterday at the Oshawa airport.  Breitling watches was one of the sponsors and they had a couple of Bentleys parked near their display.  Sorting through the shots and I was quite taken by how well this turned out.

Canadian Aviation Expo - Impressions

Canadian Aviation Expo 2007 - Oshawa Airport

Spent the morning out at Oshawa Municipal Airport at the Expo.  Not terribly impressed.

Got a few pictures including this of a Cirrus SR22 lifting off.

Don’t think I’ll bother going again.

Canadian Aviation Expo

Tomorrow I’m off to the Canadian Aviation Expo at Oshawa airport.  First time there and it looks like it might be fun.  Hopefully the will cooperate and I can get a few interesting photos.

An open letter to my neighbors

My neighbors' yard

Hi there!  Its your neighbor down the street.  Hope you’re enjoying the nice .  I’m pretty sure that you are based on the amount of time you and your friends spend sitting around in the front yard.  Too bad that its so hot that you have no energy to pick up the garbage that is quickly accumulating.

The heat must also be the reason you don’t appear until noon hour and really get up to speed around 11 at night.  You sure seem to be having a great time if the noise around midnight is any indication. It’s OK, we’ve learned to close all the windows and crank up the air conditioning.

I’m really sorry that I’ve had a little trouble avoiding your kids as they run wild in traffic.  Having no children of my own, I guess I don’t understand that today’s kids are being taught that the road belongs to them and that jumping out from between parked cars is the “in” thing to do.  It’s totally selfish of me to think that you would scold or warn them instead of glaring at me like I did it on purpose.  10km per hour is now my normal speed on the street - I promise.

Well, it’s been nice talking with you.  Go ahead and let the kids walk through our front garden whenever they want.  We really don’t mind.  The same goes for the kids toys and windblown trash we find in the driveway almost everyday.  We’re really getting used to your decorating style.

And I got stuck with Kenneth

Good news I guess Space station computers partially restored .  Problems aboard the ISS appear to be on the way to resolution.  Failure of all 3 Russian built computers that handle oxygen generating and station-keeping chores caused quite the stir yesterday.  In the worst case scenario, the three semi-permanent residents would have had to return to Earth when Atlantis leaves next week.

Atlantis, of course, has its own problem with a torn protective heat shielding blanket that is going to be sewn back together during an added EVA.

So here’s where we stand.  An aging reusable launch vehicle which should have been retired years ago is propping up a station, that is far from perfect and light years away from what it was supposed to be, which was in danger of becoming uninhabitable while its orbit decayed because the computers do not provide the necessary reliable redundancy. It may indeed be rocket science, but c’mon boys and girls, is the best we can do?

Beautiful airplane, beautiful souvenir

British Airways Concorde

Uploaded some more pictures of recent eBay purchases.  This one came earlier this week and is now the highlight of the collection.  A commemorative saucer for the British Airways Concorde made by Wedgewood. Absolutely beautiful reminder of the glory that was Concorde.

The calm after the storm

The calm after the storm

Yesterday afternoon, a short violent thunderstorm roared through Ontario with damaging winds and intense rain.  This broke the humidity and cleared the smog.

This shot was taken early this morning (about 6:15am) at Peel Village Golf Course in Brampton.  The sun is just rising highlighting a clean, cloudless sky.

One of the old willow trees on the course fell victim to the storm.  Willows are extremely weak as they grow older and many have fallen over the years that I’ve played this course.

Something’s wrong

Something’s wrong on the website tonight and I have no idea what it is.

Bear with me, while I try to get to the bottom of it.
