At this weekend’s North East Council of Air Shows annual meeting in Niagara Falls, we enjoyed a presentation by Naomi Wadsworth of the National Warplane Museum from Geneseo, New York. The museum is planning on flying their Douglas C-47 “Whiskey 7” to Normandy this year to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion in 1944. Naomi is one of the pilots who will be taking on this incredible journey. Whiskey 7 actually took part in D-Day by dropping paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division near St. Mere Eglise, France in the early hours of June 6th.
The museum needs to raise a LOT of money to cover this trip. To that end, they’ve set up a website – Return to Normandy where you can learn more and contribute to this historic event. One of the highlights on the site is this video.
