40 years? Where has the time gone?

Woodstock happened 40 years ago. I was a young hippie in Vancouver and heard that it was happening but didn’t have the balls to hop a ride to New York State.

Lots of postings all over the net in commemoration of the anniversary and here’s my take. The Crosby Stills and Nash song “Long Time Gone” was used at the start of the movie showing the tranquil site before it became a sea of mud and humanity. Always loved this song and the images.

1969. Man walked on the moon and the Summer of Love was in full bloom. The future looked bright.

Toto was an American rock band founded in 1977 by some of the most popular and experienced session musicians of the era. The band enjoyed great commercial success in the 1980s, beginning with the band’s self-titled debut, released during 1978. Continuing with 1982′s critically acclaimed and commercially successful Toto IV, Toto became one of the best selling music groups of their era.

One of their hits, Africa, is performed by a choir in a most innovative style. Turn the sound way up for the beginning as they simulate a storm on the Serengeti plains.

Definitely the coolest thing I’ve seen today. (found at metafilter)

The theme for the tremendous HBO series “The Sopranos” is “Woke Up This Morning” by Alabama 3. On TV, it’s a brooding, ominous song that fit the show’s theme very well. Here’s the opening:

What transforms it for me is the incredible performance by Devlin Love. You can’t watch her sing this without smiling.
